Forrest worked in the marketing team at Solstice prior to his current role as a Program Manager. Previously, over a yearlong Princeton in Asia Fellowship and a two-year world bicycle tour, he developed 360 By Bike, an independent journalism project aimed at understanding and documenting the global impacts of climate change and the energy transition. In his years on the road, he saw first-hand the inequality inherent in our current energy systems, and resolved to use his skills to help democratize ownership and control of the next generation of energy resources. He graduated from Whitman College in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology (BBMB) and Spanish.
Solstice was founded on the knowledge that nearly four out of every five Americans can’t get access to rooftop solar, and the belief that community solar―a central solar installation to which nearby residents can subscribe, in exchange for renewable energy and electric bill savings― can bring affordable renewable energy to each of those households. This…
Solstice was founded on the idea that every American should have access to affordable solar energy. Building solar is now almost universally cheaper than fossil fuel plants, and industry experts say that solar costs will continue to fall. But a shocking 80 percent of Americans are locked out of the rooftop solar. How Many Americans…
Only 13 percent of households with rooftop solar earn less than $45,000 per year, even though this group of Americans makes up a full quarter of the US population. This imbalance reflects the fact that low- and middle-income (LMI) communities, which also are disproportionately affected by air pollution and climate change, have to overcome systemic…
Some skeptics point out that the energy from your local solar garden will have to flow through the electricity grid to reach your home. But while there might be some level of satisfaction from using electrons produced on your very own rooftop, many overestimate the independence that on-property solar affords its owners. Community Solar is…
Massive farms produce the bulk of our food, but their cost-saving measures often result in mistreatment of animals, and healthy, fresh food is often less available in poorer neighborhoods. Community gardens have been an alternative food source for some, meeting both needs and values–and now community solar gardens are doing the same for energy. Community Gardens Bridge…
What will it take to bring renewable energy to every American? We believe that this is one of the most important questions facing our country. A solar array is installed in America every two minutes, driving energy savings to American families and allowing them to participate in the renewable energy revolution. Still, 80 percent of…
A variety of technologies can capture the sun’s rays and transform them into usable forms of energy, but by far the cheapest, and the most common, are photovoltaics. Here’s how they work. Solar Energy Can Power the World In just 18 days, the sunlight that hits Earth’s surface carries as much energy as all of the…
Solstice is more than just a renewable energy company. We are a mission-driven organization, guided in our daily work by the following five values. Equity | Expand the benefits of the green economy to all. Solar is booming, and the technology is cheaper than ever. In fact, more American households installed solar in the past…
