Solstice Receives New Funding From the Park Foundation

admin   •   June 27, 2018

Cambridge, MA – The Park Foundation, a family foundation that focuses on education, public broadcasting, and the environment, has pledged to support Solstice’s community solar education and movement-building work in New York. The grant will also contribute to Solstice’s partnership with the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition’s Southern Tier Solar Works program.

With operations in Cambridge, MA and Homer, NY, Solstice is working to open access to affordable solar in more communities. Employing a seamless digital platform and community organizing techniques honed on the Obama campaign, Solstice is building an inclusive and infectious movement for local clean energy in America. Solstice’s pioneering financial and policy innovations provide comprehensive and scalable solutions to catalyze clean energy access for underserved communities.

Established in 1966, the Park Foundation funds charitable activities across the spheres of higher education, independent journalism, and the environment. The Foundation is particularly interested in reducing reliance on polluting fossil fuels, and towards clean energy systems that are accessible, affordable and protective of citizens’ health.

Park Foundation funding will help fuel Solstice’s work across New York State, facilitating truly inclusive community solar projects and building a statewide movement to support increased renewable energy development at a state and local level. It will also contribute to a partnership with Southern Tier Solar Works (STSW), an initiative that promotes community solar enrollments in underserved communities in upstate New York.

“We’re honored to be working with organizations like the Park Foundation and STSW to build a more sustainable and equitable future,” said Solstice Co-Founder & CEO Steph Speirs. “Only by opening clean energy access to every American can we hope to eliminate fossil fuels’ negative impacts on our communities.”
